Welcome to Live Love Play and this livestream highlight from Star Trek 25th Anniversary. Join me in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek with a 25 year old game!
Star Trek is 50! In September 1966 a legacy began, Star Trek aired for the first time on Television. Though the show only lasted three seasons its impact is still being felt 50 years later. This channel wouldn’t exist if not for my love of Trek as Busy Little Beaver Productions came into being because of the Star Trek Podcast, The G&T Show.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary I livestream Star Trek 25th Anniversary, a point and click Adventure game. Though it shows it age the game is one of the best games to bear the Trek title. It is also one of my personal favorites.
I’ve played this game more times than I can recall and the first mission, Demon World is permanently embedded in my memory. Even so I did my best to complete the mission in an organic fashion for the livestream. The mission begins with the Enterprise engaging in mock battle with the USS Republic. The battle, win or lose, carries into the first mission from Starfleet. A small mining settlement is asking for help.
The Colony houses a group non denominational monks under attack by Demons. The Demons do not pursue the monks but prevent them from entering the mine. Kirk and company are skeptical but accept the mission and go to investigate the mine. They are immediately attacked by Klingons. Kirk dispatches them with ease and Spock’s keen eye and tricorder reveals the Klingons are android constructs meant to scare them away.
The androids are created by a security system installed to protect the hibernating survivors of an ancient alien race. The system telepathically finds the greatest fear of any intruder and creats it to drive them away. Once revived the beings offer their gratitude for being awoken and offer peaceful cooperation with the Monks as well as the Federation.
A successful mission ends, as they did on the show, with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy reflecting philosophically on their experiences before warping out of orbit and onto their next adventure.
